Mineral dust

What is mineral dust?
Mineral dust is produced, for example, when working with stone, concrete, cement, quartz, metal, or during the demolition and grinding of building materials.

Possible health effects:

            • Irritation of the eyes, nose, and respiratory tract
            • Coughing, shortness of breath
            • Long-term: chronic bronchitis, lung fibrosis
            • For quartz dust: risk of pneumoconiosis (silicosis) and increased cancer risk

Important:
Mineral dust can penetrate deep into the lungs and cause permanent damage. That is why respiratory protection and extraction systems are particularly important.
